Ali Al-Hajj Ousted from PCP Secretary-General Position

The Shura (Consultative) Council of the Popular Congress Party (PCP) has decided, through a vote, to oust Dr. Ali Al-Hajj Mohammad, Secretary-General of the Party and replace him by Dr. Amin Mahmoud Mohammad Osman, as the new PCP Secretary-General.
The head of the Shura Council, Ibrahim Al-Senussi, said in a press statement that the Shura Council, its leadership and its committee have been in constant conflict with the ousted Secretary-General, Ali Al-Hajj, since its meeting on June 25, 2022, seeking his response to its decisions by returning to the movement’s line, goals, values, and his commitment to the statute as well as reversing the deliberate aligning with (FFC) and signing the framework agreement.
He added that the membership of the movement, from all states of Sudan, sought and remained in a continuous movement that culminated in the Memorandum of 1000 demanding the ousting of the Secretary-General and the enacting Article 9/4 of the Statute. In mid-December 2023, the Presidency of the Shura Council decided to activate Article 26/2 of the Statute (provisions of necessity). It took steps to address all state secretaries to revise the Shura membership lists, and it responded to that. The approved number of members of the Shura Council was 272 members, and a referendum was held on approving the state of necessity and reality (Article 26/3/2), and a committee of a number of jurists was formed to supervise the election process. .
Al-Senussi explained the merits of the electoral process, was the door for nominations for the position of Secretary-General was opened on 12/15/2023, and it was closed on January 18, 2024, then the door for challenges and withdrawal was opened on January 19, 2024, and the voting process ended on January 24, 2024. The number of participants was 177 members, representing 65% of the Shura membership.
He pointed out that the number of those who agreed to approve the state of emergency reached 143 members, representing 80.8% of the total participants, while the number of those who participated in the nomination for the position of Secretary-General was 143 members, representing 52.6% of the total membership of the Shura Council.
He stressed that the decisions came based on the results of the election, and the Shura Council decided to approve Ibrahim Mohammad Al-Senussi as Chairman of the Shura Council and oust Dr. Ali Al-Hajj from his position as Secretary-General of the Popular Congress Party, announcing the victory of candidate Dr. Amin Mahmoud Mohammad Osman to be Secretary-General of the PCP.
Al-Senussi announced the cancellation of all decisions, signatures, strategies, and alliances with political forces that contradict what was stated in the objectives of the Statute (Article 2).
