The decision of the Confederation of African Football to lift the penalty against Walid Regragui, coach of the Atlas Lions.

CAF had decided to suspend Regragui for 4 matches, including two suspended matches, in addition to imposing a fine, and he was therefore absent from the bench during the match against Zambia in the third round of the group stage of the African Cup of Nations held in Côte d’Ivoire.

But the Moroccan Federation filed an appeal against the penalty, and accordingly the penalty was cancelled, leaving the coach on the bench during the match against South Africa, next Tuesday in the 16-final of the continental championship.

Joy spread throughout the Lions’ residence, and they chanted Regragui’s name a lot after the end of the group training, and most of them conveyed these feelings through television statements, broadcast by Moroccan television.

Ismail Al-Sibari said: “There is no doubt that the return of Regragui makes us very happy and gives us motivation. It is true that we won (over Zambia 1-0), and he was in the stands, but his presence and closeness to us will be an important factor in advancing the tournament.”

Bilal Khanous followed suit, who said: “Regragui represents a lot to me and to the people of my generation. Lifting the punishment also meant a lot to him, to the Lions, and to the Moroccan masses, and it means that he is far from suspicion and everything that has been reported about him.”
