North Darfur: IDPs Receive (24,000) Flour Bags

Sudan Events – Nahid Oshi

North Darfur State received 24,000 bags of flour, weighing 25 kilograms, in addition to 3,600 boxes containing integrated food supplies, which are distributed to 91 shelter centers in El Fasher, six camps for the displaced, as well as ten localities. The Governor of North Darfur State, Al-Hafiz Bakhit Mohammad, has confirmed this during the inauguration of the food basket provided by the federal government in the centers for displaced people.

He stated that the share received from the relief is not sufficient to cover the numbers he described as large, which the centers host. He directed the Humanitarian Aid Commission to move towards the center to follow up and receive the state’s shares of relief and shelter materials, in addition to directing the Commission and state government bodies to tighten joint coordination with humanitarian organizations to integrate roles in implementing the government’s priorities at this stage, especially in health and water projects, reiterating his call for UN and international organizations to return to the state to resume its humanitarian activities in light of the relative stability witnessed in the state, as he put it. In the meantime, it is expected that more humanitarian support will flow from the central government to address the food shortage for families who did not receive the ration.

The State’s Humanitarian Aid Commissioner, Dr. Abbas Yousuf Adam, pointed out that the Commission had inaugurated during October “40,000” bags of wheat flour weighing “25” kilograms from the first jump, which included the state’s “18” localities, and displacement camps, and stressed that the January share of humanitarian aid continues to be distributed to “91” centers in El Fasher, along with ten localities in the state, as well as old displacement camps. Adam acknowledged the existence of a large food gap, which calls for concerted efforts from the government and organizations working in humanitarian aid to provide the necessary needs of food and medicine, and to support the water and environmental sanitation project in the state to carry out its role assigned towards the centers.
