A number of Sudanese bakeries in Cairo stopped working due to high production costs, while some bakeries and stores raised the price of a loaf from one and a half pounds to two pounds, amid expectations of a continued rise.
Bakery owners complained about the price of a ton of flour rising from 16,500 Egyptian pounds to 24,000 pounds, and a 50-kilo sack from 120 pounds to 850 pounds.
They pointed out that the increase is on a daily basis, and despite the noticeable decline in the dollar exchange rate from 75 pounds to 60 pounds, the costs of producing Sudanese bread are still high. They indicated that the price of a kilo of packaging bags rose from 65 pounds to 100 pounds, and a liter of oil from 65 pounds to 90 pounds, while the price of yeast stabilized at 70 pounds.
On the other hand, the price escalation for the rest of the Sudanese goods was reversed. Resident Sabah pointed out that the prices of Sudanese products before the outbreak of war were within everyone’s reach, as a kilo of milk was 170 pounds, and now it has risen to 329 pounds, and a quarter of a kilo of tea has risen from 30 pounds to 100 pounds, and a kilo of dakoh has exceeded 85 pounds, and she said every Sudanese products have doubled and we can no longer buy Sudanese products.
