The UAE won 3-1 over Italy on penalties after the first goalless draw in the history of the Beach Soccer World Cup, on Monday.
According to the Arab World News Agency, for the first time in the tournament’s 19-year history, the match’s original time and then extra time ended without the goal being scored, after the goal frame prevented many attempts.
Emirates goalkeeper Jamal Hamid excelled, saving three penalty kicks to lead his country to victory over Italy, bringing the two teams equal on points in the first group competitions, but the European team clinched the top spot on goal difference over the hosts.
Before the start of this match, the two teams guaranteed qualification to the quarter-finals of the tournament held in Dubai, and the confrontation between them was to determine the leader.
The UAE got one point after winning on penalties, and the regulations stipulate that the winner in regular time gets 3 points, and the victor in extra time gets 2 points.
The UAE has 6 points from 3 matches, and is in second place behind Italy, while Egypt comes in third place with two points after it won after extra time over America to achieve its first victory.
