Bread crisis resolved

Sudan Events – Rehab Abdullah

Follow-ups (Al-Ahdath) revealed a breakthrough in the bread crisis that the Nile River State witnessed recently, but prices stabilized at the increase that was implemented without an announcement from the official authorities.
The Secretary-General of the Atbara Chamber of Commerce, Saif El-Din Moqled, attributed the rise in the prices of flour and bread production inputs, such as yeast, whose prices have greatly doubled and affected the bread industry to the fact that it had previously relied on the local product (Sega and Sein), which was mixed with flour coming from outside Egypt due to its low prices compared with other types of flour. He pointed out that this was achieving a balance in prices, and he confirmed that this had an actual impact on the cost of making bread, in that there were a number of factors that contributed to the rise in the cost of bread, most notably the outbreak of war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Militia, which It affected the supply of goods, including flour, in addition to the rise in the exchange rate, as well as the increase in fees and taxes during the current year, pointing to an agreement made between bakery owners and Economic Affairs to adjust the value of selling bread from 50 pounds per piece to 60 pounds per piece, which necessitated this agreement.
