The Burkina Faso national team will play a friendly match against Libya at Father Djiko Stadium in Casablanca, Morocco, on the sidelines of the horses’ preparations to face the Egyptian national team next June, as part of the third round matches of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Today’s match will be the first match for the Burkina Faso national team with Brama Traoré, the new coach, who was appointed to succeed Frenchman Hubert Fillo, who was dismissed from his position following the exit from the 2023 African Cup of Nations, which was held in Côte d’Ivoire.
The Burkina national team is scheduled to play another friendly next Tuesday against Niger at the end of its camp in Morocco before the next gathering in June in preparation for facing the Egyptian national team on the 3rd of the same month in Cairo.
“After the end of the 2023 African Cup of Nations and in view of the team’s results, the Burkinabe Football Federation decided not to extend the contract of coach Hubert Velod and all his staff.” The Burkina Faso Federation said in a statement.
“After evaluating the team’s participation in the 2023 African Cup of Nations, it became clear that the results were lower than the fans’ expectations and not in line with the ambitions of the Football Executive Committee. Therefore, we decided to thank coach Hubert Velaud and the technical administration as a whole.” The statement added.
The Egyptian national team is located in the first group of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers alongside the teams of Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, Guinea Bissau, Sierra Leone, and Djibouti. The national team leads the standings with 6 points after the first two matches, while Burkina comes in second place, ahead of Guinea Bissau, which is in third place on goal difference, where the score is equal the duo with 4 points.
