Congress Members call for increased Aid to Sudanese refugees in Chad

Two US House representatives and a Senate senator called on the international community, including the US government, to provide significantly more Aid to help meet the needs of Sudanese refugees in Chad.
A delegation from the US Congress recorded its first visit to the Sudanese refugee camps in eastern Chad, which included Representatives Barbara Lee and Sarah Jacobs, and Senator Cory Booker, which lasted two days from March 31 to April 2.
The visit came two days after a visit by the British Minister of Development and Africa, Mitchell Andrew.
“New refugees are not only fleeing violence, but are now also leaving Sudan in search of food,” delegation members said in a joint statement on California Democratic Rep. Barbara Lee’s website. “We have seen firsthand the critical, life-saving work supported by US aid and UN agencies on land, but it is very clear that the available resources are not sufficient.”
The delegation called on the armed forces and the Rapid Support RSF Militia to stop the fighting immediately and allow humanitarian aid to reach all parts of Sudan.
The statement appreciated the Special Envoy for Sudan, Tom Perriello, “for his urgent work to end the conflict, support the Sudanese people in working to form a civilian government and provide more assistance to the humanitarian crisis inside Sudan and neighboring countries such as Chad.”
It is noteworthy that Representative Barbara Lee (Democrat of California), a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Country, Foreign Operations and Related Programs, Sarah Jacobs (Democrat of California), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa, and Senator Cory Booker (Democrat of New Jersey), Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Africa and Global Health Policy.
