A proposal to resume negotiations in Jeddah at the end of the month

Events – Agencies

American diplomats and IGAD officials pushed a proposal to resume negotiations between the SAF and the RSF Militia at the end of this April.
A source said, according to (Ultra Sudan )on Sunday, that there is an initial proposal to resume negotiations between the SAF and the Rapid Support RSF Militia on April 18, but this proposal is subject to modification according to the response of the two parties and the facilitators.
The source explained that the negotiations will take place in Jeddah forum, based on the terms on which the two parties made progress in July 2023, despite the recent changes to the war map.
In the same context, a former diplomat in the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs during the period of the transitional government said that the expected negotiations announced by the US envoy come in light of the absence of the international community’s tools to stop the war in Sudan.
The diplomat, on condition of anonymity, said that the USA did not work during the recent period to stop the flow of weapons to Sudan, until there became an arms market parallel to the war inside the country as a result of the collapse of the security situation.
He continued: “Arms shipments arrive to the militia from some countries under the sun during the day. However, the US turns a blind eye to these active operations in the west of the country with neighboring countries, and they could have been stopped to ensure that the military parties respond to peaceful efforts.”
The diplomat concluded that the next round may witness some developments with the signing of a ceasefire, as the international community also expects, but the process will be complex and arduous and requires technical arrangements and a regional military and technical monitoring mission.
