Escalating disputes within the Unionist Assembly

Events – Agencies

Unionist Assembly is witnessing a noticeable escalation in the intensity of the internal conflict, as the “Leadership Office” announced its intention to hold an extraordinary founding conference, which was met with a categorical rejection from the Executive Office, which threatened to take decisive measures against this group.
A leader at the leadership office, Azhari Ali, said, according to “Sudan Tribune,” that due to the lack of organizational regulations, the conference’s Supreme Committee was resorted to arranging the internal organizational situation and preparing for a founding or exceptional conference.
He added that scheduling the conference date is the prerogative of the conference’s Supreme Committee, and “we asked for this to be done as quickly as possible.”
He explained that they are currently talking about the components of the Unionist assembly and reunifying them, pointing to the departure of a group of leaders earlier.
But head of the Executive Office of the Unionist Assembly, Babiker Faisal, revealed decisive and imminent organizational decisions that will affect the leaders who are organising the founding conference.
He said, according to “Sudan Tribune,” that “the party’s institutions will hold a meeting and take decisive decisions regarding them soon.
They only represent themselves and work outside institutional frameworks.”
He pointed out that the leadership body consists of nine members and did not meet or authorize them to take any action.
In turn, the leader, Sayed Al-Obaid, explained to Sudan Tribune that the differences within the Unionist Assembly emerged a long time ago through a reform memorandum within the party, but it was rejected and its sponsors were subjected to interrogation, while committee members were frozen.
Azhari Ali revealed that the leadership body group continues to communicate with political forces, including the Umma, Communist, and National Unionist parties, and a number of forces that left Freedom and Change, affirming that the nature of communication takes place as parties, pointing out that Freedom and Change has become a closed group, and is working to eliminate the institution.
Regarding what he described as the reform project, he said that it was not related to the removal of those he described as kidnappers, but rather sought to unite the unionists, noting that a small group controlled the party.
