Increase in bread prices in Shindi

Shendi – Rehab Abdullah

Bakeries in Shendi locality, Nile River State, implemented an increase in bread prices on Thursday, bringing the price per piece to 100 pounds instead of 70 pounds.
In their interview with Al-Ahdath, bakery owners justified the increase due to the high cost of bread, starting with the price of flour and gas and the large increase in the price of yeast and oil, as well as the high cost of labor and its scarcity during the Eid holidays.
At a time when the Secretary-General of the Atbara Chamber of Commerce, Saif El-Din Moqled, acknowledged that there’s a bread crisis in the Nile River State, due to the high prices of flour and bread production inputs such as yeast, the prices of which have greatly doubled and affected the bread industry because it had previously relied on the local product (Siga and Seen), which used to be mixed with flour coming from “Egyptian”, due to its low prices compared to other types of flour, pointing out that this was achieving a balance in prices, and he confirmed that this had an actual impact on the cost of making bread, because there are a number of factors that contributed to the high cost of bread, such as the outbreak of war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Militia, which affected the supply of goods, including flour, in addition to the rise in the exchange rate, as well as the increase in fees and taxes during the current year, pointing to an agreement made between bakery owners and economic affairs to adjust the value of selling bread from 50 pound per piece to 60 pounds, which necessitated this agreement overcoming previous decisions regarding the selling price of bread.
