Destroying Expired Commodities in the Blue Nile State

Al-Damazin – Follow-ups

The Blue Nile Standards & Metrology Organization (SSMO)  has destroyed more than 15 tons of expired food commodities after completing legal procedures surrounding them.

The Director of the SSMO in the Blue Nile Region, Al-Amin Al-Tayeb, said that the destruction took place in the presence of the specialized committee consisting of the Central Investigations, Finance and Economic Security Investigations, and Health Affairs in Al-Damazin Governorate, pointing out that the committee is concerned with improving performance, raising awareness, and maintaining consumer protection.

He explained that the materials were destroyed because they had expired or were poorly stored due to high humidity.

Etidal Abdullah Babiker, Director of Health Services in Al-Damazin Governorate, called on merchants to routinely review storage containers and work to get rid of commodities that have a month or two remaining within their expiration date by selling them at reduced prices or donating them to those in need.
