Army Repulses Attack on Al-Obeid and Dozens of Militia Members Are Killed

Sudan Events – Follow-ups

On Sunday, the Sudanese army repulsed an attack carried out by the Rapid Support militia (RSF) on Al-Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan State, causing heavy losses in lives and military vehicles. About 70 militia members were killed during the clashes.
During the past three days, the RSF sent large numbers of their soldiers, arriving from multiple areas in Darfur, to attack the city of Al-Obeid and overthrow the Fifth Infantry Division.
Eyewitnesses reported, according to “Sudan Tribune,” that the militia attempted to penetrate deep into Al-Obeid through two axes from the northern and western direction, with a force coming from the Bara road, in addition to another force that arrived via Al-Nahud, but the advanced defenses of the army responded to the attack after it led violent battles in the neighborhoods of Al-Wahda and Block 12 and 13, in addition to the Taiba neighborhood, southeast of Al-Obeid Airport, and the northern entrance to the city. It continued for more than three hours, during which the RSF militia suffered heavy losses, according to witnesses.
Sudanese army platforms published video clips that showed the destruction of a number of military vehicles, in addition to the seizure of more than ten vehicles. The videos also showed the capture of soldiers affiliated with the RSF. According to army media, a number of mercenaries were arrested, including the rural commander.
