A Significant Increase in Sesame Prices
Sudan Events – Rehab Abdullah
The official spokesman for the Agricultural Chamber of Gedaref State, Hassan Zarrouk, has revealed a significant increase in sesame prices.
Hassan Zarrouk explained in his statement to (Sudan Events) that the price of a quintal of sesame in the Gedaref crop market reached 90,000 pounds, compared to its price of 75,000 pounds last week. Zarrouk attributed the increase to the entry of new buyers, including major companies working in the field of grain exports, at a time when he regretted that most farmers had to to sell sesame at low prices amounting to (50-60) thousand pounds per quintal, in order to meet their financial obligations.
Hassan Zarrouk pointed to the complaints of sesame farmers and producers about the high cost of harvesting, which is equivalent to 75% of the cost of growing the sesame crop, which also faced a rise in the cost of inputs.
