In a step that enhances bilateral cooperation between the two countries, Dr. Jibriel Ibrahim Mohammad, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning has met with his the Algerian Minister of Finance and discussed the importance of resuming financing for stalled projects in Sudan, in addition to supporting the initiatives of a number of countries to form a bridge loan to remove arrears and resume economic aid, as well as strengthening efforts to benefit from the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa.
When he met with the Algerian Minister of Finance, Aziz Fayed, on the sidelines of the meetings of the Islamic Development Bank Group in the city of Riyadh, Jibriel stressed the necessity of using Algeria’s expertise in exploring for oil and gas in the Red Sea.
The meeting resulted in an exchange of views on a number of economic and development issues of common interest, as the minister presented a comprehensive report on the economic and political situation in Sudan, expressing his thanks to Algeria for its clear positions against foreign interference and his emphasis on the depth of historical relations between the two countries.
For his part, Algerian Finance Minister Aziz Fayed expressed his regret for what is happening in Sudan and expressed his wishes for peace and stability to prevail in Sudan, stressing Algeria’s support for Sudan in the Board of Governors, which Algeria will chair next year, and welcoming Sudan’s proposals to strengthen economic relations between the two countries.
The Algerian Minister concluded his speech by emphasizing the importance of Sudan as a gateway to East Africa, and promised to study the proposals submitted by Sudan before responding to them.
