Head of Employers Association Criticizes Performance of Crossings

Sudan Events – Rehab Abdullah

The head of the Sudanese Employers Association and member of the Importers Chamber, Muawiyah Abayazid, has criticized the level of services at the Halfa and Arqain crossings, as well as their lack of required specifications, criticizing the recurrence of fire incidents in Arqain.

Abayazid revealed importers’ complaints about the slow procedures and the obstruction they face in clearing their goods at the two crossings, in terms of the fact that workers work in a limited and very limited time, in addition to the multiplicity of clearance agencies (customs, SSMO, health, etc.), and he stressed the necessity of establishing a single window.

Abayazid called for offering public bids to establish dry ports for businessmen to work on rehabilitating them, so that they have the necessary controls and the necessity of having a civil defense unit equipped with all the equipment, noting that fire extinguishing engines now come from Egypt, which leads to the fire devouring all the goods. Therefore, he stressed the need that the fire brigade must be inside the crossing to quickly extinguish the fire if it occurs.

Abayazid held the governor of the northern state and his government responsible for mismanagement regarding the dry ports, in addition to his ignoring the demand to stimulate commercial movement in the northern state by opening Wadi Halfa and Dongola airport and linking them to allow commercial movement, in addition to the bad and poor roads, which hinders vehicles carrying goods.

He appealed to the governor of the Northern State to open Dongola Airport to airspace, noting that there are airlines that have confirmed their readiness to organize internal flights to transport goods.
