Ethiopians Attack Sudanese Refugee Camps

Thousands of refugees in western Ethiopia, most of them Sudanese, fled from the “Komer” and “Olala” camps in the Amhara region for fear of expanding ongoing attacks on them by the local population for the purpose of looting, demanding their evacuation to a safe place.
Sudanese refugees from the Olala camp in the Amhara region said that thousands of refugees left on foot from the Olala camp towards the city of Gondar, which is about 200 kilometers away, to sit in front of the headquarters of the UNHCR in protest against the deteriorating security.
They explained that an Ethiopian police and army force intercepted their way kilometers away from Olala camp and tried to force them to return to the camp, but they refused and sat on the ground. They confirmed that they were suffering at the moment of their objection from the lack of food and water.
In the neighboring Comer camp, which is located about 20 kilometers from the Sudanese-Ethiopian border, hundreds of refugees left the camp and took shelter in the nearby federal police station following an attack launched by local gunmen on the camp at dawn on Wednesday for the purpose of stealing and looting.
