Initiative to the reconstruction of Omdurman market

Omdurman market merchants launched the initiative to reconstruct the market, and the Grand Mosque witnessed a broad popular and official response to the initiative.
Meanwhile, Ahmed Othman Hamza was directed to Khartoum to develop a strategic vision for the reconstruction of Omdurman Market, which extends within residential neighbourhoods, pointing out that the spread of slums and the settlement of thieves and criminals are among the biggest security threats, as chaos prevailed over shop owners. The governor confirmed that the era of chaos had ended with the rule of emergency orders. He promised that the market would return with its wide streets and certified buildings.
“There will be no return to the parking lots, and we must adhere to applying safety procedures and reconsidering many activities that have become inappropriate for the nature of the market, in addition to taking into account the organization of vehicle parking and bus stops.” He said.
He directed that the review extend to government buildings, calling for a partnership that takes into account the interest of the nation, the interest of merchants, and the interest of the customer in safe shopping.
“Now our goal is to restore life to the market, secure it and provide good distribution of services, water and electricity connections, while the police will begin implementing plans to secure the market,” He added. He pointed out that the reform will prevail all markets The governor directed those in charge of water, electricity, and rain drains to form work teams to implement an emergency program to rehabilitate the market.
He said that the battle to liberate Omdurman market was led by all forces. It was a fierce battle in which our forces were valiant after the militia barricaded themselves in high-rise buildings and sought the help of hardened criminals to invade, steal and burn the market.

For his part, Assistant Director General of the Khartoum State Police, Lieutenant General Dr. Ibrahim Shamin, said that our forces are fighting in the Battle of Karama, and we will support the initiative. Reconstruction requires an epic, and the police will be in the field with the merchants.
For his part, the Omdurman local police and civil defense forces announced the start of forming security and sterilization teams for the market.
The Commander of the Corps of Engineers, Major General Dhafer Omar Abdel Qader, praised the governor of Khartoum, who remained alongside the armed forces. “We are ready in the Corps of Engineers to provide machinery and equipment for cleaning, removing rubble and opening roads.” He said.
“We have begun the work of rehabilitating the market and are ready from today to begin work and implement the initiative’s programs.” The executive director of Omdurman locality, Al-Hadi Abdel-Sayed, said.
While the head of the initiative committee, Haider Al-Amin, explained that the initiative involves more than a thousand merchants, and the priority now is to restore water, electricity, hygiene, security, sterilization and rain drains.
