UN official: Stop Feeding War Machines starve Civilians in Sudan and Gaza

Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths said that while the powerful Group of Seven countries meet in Italy on Thursday, conflicts in Sudan, Gaza and elsewhere are raging out of control.
He affirmed that the world must stop feeding war machines that starve civilians in Gaza and Sudan.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Griffiths warned that the war is pushing millions of people to the brink of famine, and that only technical details prevent the declaration of famine, as people are already dying of hunger.
He explained that in Sudan, at least five million people are at the brink of famine, and communities in more than forty hunger-stricken areas face the risk of slipping into famine next month, including war-torn areas in Gezira,Darfur, Khartoum and Kordofan.
In both Gaza and Sudan, violent fighting, unacceptable restrictions and meager funding are preventing aid workers from delivering food, water, seeds, health care and other life-saving assistance on anything close to the scale needed to prevent mass starvation, he added.
