Fire Devours Shops at Arqin Crossing

Sudan Events – Nahid Oshi

A fire broke out on Tuesday in the area overlooking the Arqin border crossing between Egypt and Sudan in the southwestern direction of the crossing, which is 400 meters away from the crossing.
Director of the Arqin land crossing, Brig. Gen.Atef Hamed Ahmed, said that the fire devoured the homes of workers at the crossing and the random shops.
He added that the cause of the fire was a fire in one of the structures and the flames spread due to the strong winds to the rest of the other structures and from there to the shops, noting that the fire caused material losses that are currently being counted.
He pointed out that there were no casualties, and Atef appealed to officials to remove the random areas overlooking the crossing and build housing and markets through proper planning to avoid such fires, particularly since the random areas hinder the arrival of fire trucks to the fire area.
He expressed his thanks to the Egyptian side for providing a fire truck, calling on the Sudanese authorities to provide fire trucks due to the frequent fires witnessed in the area.
