Militia Shelling destroys Malnutrition Treatment Center in El Fasher

Sudan Events – Follow-ups

Rapid Support Forces RSF militia continued to target medical facilities in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, where an artillery shell destroyed on Thursday a center specializing in treating malnutrition cases among children in a camp crowded with displaced persons (IDPs).
The media official at the Ministry of Health in North Darfur State, Lana Awad Sabil, told Sudan Tribune that “the Rapid Support Forces RSF targeted the therapeutic feeding center in Abu Shouk camp for displaced persons with heavy artillery, which led to the destruction of a warehouse containing treatment for children suffering from malnutrition.”
She pointed out that destroying the medical facility for treating malnourished children will complicate their health situation and put their lives at risk, particularly in light of the main hospital for children, which serves the residents of the five Darfur states, being out of service since the first days of the war.
For his part, Director General of the Ministry of Health in North Darfur state, Ibrahim Abdullah Khater, said in a press statement that the Rapid Support Forces RSF are deliberately and repeatedly bombing health facilities in El Fasher, and called on the international community to condemn this behavior and take strict measures against those who destroy health institutions – according to his expression. Khater affirmed the stability of the health situation and the absence of any epidemics, in light of the medical cadres continuing to provide medical services, but he indicated that the artillery shelling targeting hospitals is the only problem so far – according to him -.
He added that the ministry is now working to find an alternative to the kidney dialysis center that was subjected to artillery shelling.
