Academic Calls for Addressing the Economic Situation

Shendi – Rehab Abdullah

Director of the Sudan Civilization Institute, member of the Arab Cultural Academy and lecturer at University of Khartoum, Professor Jaafar Mirghani, revealed that Sudan is currently facing two issues, one of which is a comprehensive famine, as it is now present in some cities and states.
He added that the comprehensive famine is due to the lack of food and based on the current agricultural season, adding that the other issue facing Sudan is the financial collapse, considering that the economic collapse has occurred, and said that the state is now proceeding with the popular economy after the official one stopped, and warned of the danger of the financial collapse that has now appeared after the rise of the dollar and the loss of the value of the Sudanese pound.
He called for addressing the matter and for everyone to think about getting rid of the danger of famine, and added, “Those who carry weapons have their mission,” and urged the development of economic treatments with regard to production, and lamented the condition of the onion crop in the River Nile state and the large production of onions, pointing to the importance of having institutions specialized in onions to establish correct warehouses to ensure the appropriate price or export and establish drying factories, and affirmed that one of the problems is the disruption of roads, and affirmed the need to pay attention to security and safety while building an economic plan.
During his lecture (Departed and New Cities) at the Karama Forum organized by the General Administration of Culture, Media and Communications, he said that the situation the country is going through now is similar to the late Mahdist period because everyone migrated to Omdurman at that time.
He pointed out that the rebellion and attackers are now targeting all Sudanese cities, demolishing them and targeting their owners and their belongings, pointing to the disruption of production in these cities, and added that most cities have become ruins after the departure of their community, and stressed the need to think about redressing their economic conditions, pointing out that the real strength of countries is in the economy and not weapons to confront the global economic system.
He expressed his optimism about the approaching end of the war because the attacker will lose his budget, and stressed the need to develop a plan for how to rebuild the ruins because it will not rise spontaneously and requires an economic philosophy, and to link building the state to reconciliation between communities to establish an elected government.
He promised to rebuild and develop the city of Khartoum, noting that the Khartoum we lost was backward 50 years ago, and stressed the possibility of progress and development with the preferential advantages available to it, including that Sudan has an air network and that it can benefit from expanding and developing the airport to ensure more aircraft landing. Mirghani called for not waiting for the end of the war to establish new cities and reconstruction to address the consequences of the war on some cities, especially the capital Khartoum, and affirmed that the vision for the future is based on thinking about the civilizational boom and leaping over all backwardness and building new cities through a comprehensive program and serious work.
