UN: Humanitarian Situation in Sudan is Miserable
Sudan Events – Follow-ups
Spokesperson for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Stephane Dujarric, described the situation in Sudan as a dire humanitarian situation, and said: “We have some heartbreaking news from Sudan, which is already experiencing a miserable humanitarian situation.”
He pointed out that the Zamzam camp in North Darfur – which houses more than 220,000 IDPs – has now crossed the threshold of famine.
Dujarric said that one in two Sudanese struggles to put enough food on their plates every day.
The World Food Program WFP is certainly working to rapidly expand its emergency response to save more lives in the country.
The WFP is also working to increase the volume of aid, identifying innovative and effective ways to provide immediate assistance to millions of people across Sudan, particularly in hard-to-reach areas.
