The Ministry of Health in the Northern State launched an urgent appeal on Friday to the international, regional and local community, as well as to local, regional and international organizations, to intervene quickly to save the lives of thousands of people affected by the rains and floods in Wadi Halfa locality.

The Ministry of Health in the state warned in a statement of a humanitarian disaster looming for thousands of citizens and displaced persons due to the rains and floods and their resulting effects.

Wadi Halfa was exposed to floods on Thursday evening, and several areas south of the city were exposed to destructive rains and floods.

The Ministry of Health reported in its urgent appeal that more than three thousand homes and a number of health facilities and shelter centers were severely damaged in the city of Wadi Halfa and the neighboring villages, areas and islands.

The ministry called for urgent intervention and work to help those affected, pointing to the urgent need to provide food, shelter, tents, food supplies and medicines.

The ministry’s statement advised the state’s citizens to exercise extreme caution due to the heavy rains and torrential floods that swept the state.
