Death Toll from Abu Hamed Floods Rises to 35, with 588 Injured

The death toll from the rains and floods that hit the city of Abu Hamed in the River Nile State has risen to 35 people, after a student died on Tuesday due to an electric shock.

The number of injured due to the rains and floods and the conditions that followed has risen to 588 people, some of whom are in critical condition, amid varying levels of medical assistance reaching the stricken city.

Government sources in the locality confirmed the collapse of 11,500 homes, but residents told “Sudan Tribune” that more than 35,000 homes were totally or partially destroyed.

The homes were destroyed in the blocks (1-2-3-4-6-7) and the neighborhoods of Al-Silim, Al-Qouz, and Al-Qalaa, in addition to the destruction of large and medium-sized markets due to the rains and floods.
