Militia Loots Communal Kitchens in Shambat
Sudan Events – Reports
Shambat Resistance Committees accused the Rapid Support Forces militia on Thursday of looting food supplies designated for communal kitchens and shooting volunteers in the Shambat area of Khartoum North.
A statement issued by the Shambat Resistance Committees said, “In a heinous act, armed individuals affiliated with the Rapid Support Forces militia stole and looted food supplies designated for communal kitchens (‘takayas’) in the Shambat area, assaulted volunteers in the kitchens by beating them and firing live ammunition at them, and stole their personal phones.”
The statement noted that the shutdown of communal kitchens would threaten the lives of residents who have come to rely on these free kitchens for food amid a lack of job opportunities and the absence of humanitarian aid.
It confirmed that no forces are protecting civilians as rumored, and no forces have been formed for this purpose since the outbreak of the war, and all rumors are unfounded.
The statement emphasized that the free kitchens are the last remaining lifeline for Shambat’s besieged residents, and attacking the workers there exacerbates the humanitarian situation in the area. It also mentioned that residents are being subjected to systematic assaults, including unjustified beatings, ongoing search campaigns, and looting.
The statement called on the militia to adhere to international humanitarian law, refrain from interfering with the food supply for Shambat residents, and keep their armed individuals away from the area.
