Foreign Minister: There Is No Justification for Discussing U.S. Sanctions on Sudan

Sudan Events – Agencies
Sudanese Foreign Minister Hussein Awad said they did not completely reject Washington’s invitation to discuss reaching a ceasefire, protecting civilians, and delivering aid.
He confirmed, according to “Al Jazeera Net,” that they welcomed – in their response to the invitation – any effort in this direction, provided it falls within the framework of the Jeddah Declaration, and that they do not backtrack on what has been achieved or “replace it by establishing a new platform.”
He added that they, therefore, insisted on implementing what was agreed upon in Jeddah, which addresses the same issues currently on the table. He emphasized that communications between the two countries on the matter have not stopped, as there have been meetings in Saudi Arabia, as well as phone calls.
Awad pointed out that Cairo will host meetings between the Sudanese government and both mediators. He added, “Therefore, there is no justification for discussing sanctions from Washington or others. The government is keen on the interests and protection of its people, and it is not moved by pressures or temptations if they conflict with what our people want.”
