Rising Cholera Cases and Outbreak of New Epidemic in the North

The Ministry of Health revealed on Wednesday the increasing number of cholera cases spreading across five states, while a new epidemic has emerged in the Northern State.
On Tuesday, the Ministry of Health reported 1,223 cases of cholera, including 48 deaths, amid concerns over the healthcare system’s inability to respond to the outbreaks during this year’s rainy season, after conflict has disrupted the operation of 80% of healthcare facilities.
The Ministry of Health stated in a report that “128 new cases of cholera have been recorded in the states of Kassala and Gedaref, including 8 deaths.”
Additionally, the Ministry of Health in the Northern State reported the outbreak of a highly contagious disease called “bacterial skin infection,” affecting 260 people in Dongola, Al-Burayq, and Dalgo.
The ministry explained that the disease appeared with the onset of rains and floods, and its symptoms include skin rashes on the face, back, hands, and feet in mild cases, accompanied by fever, skin ulcers, and secretions in severe cases.
The Ministry of Health in the Northern State plans to establish a preventive and treatment protocol for the epidemic and strategies to combat it.
