Al-Burhan Calls for Classifying RSF as a Terrorist Group

Sudan Events – Reports
The Chairman of the Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, called for the classification of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) as a terrorist group during the China-Africa Forum held in Beijing on Thursday. He also urged the reinstatement of Sudan’s membership in the African Union.
In his speech during the “Belt and Road” session of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum, Al-Burhan stated that it is essential to classify the RSF as a terrorist militia. He also called for support in eliminating the RSF and condemning its actions.
Al-Burhan emphasized that many crimes committed by the RSF, classified as war crimes and crimes against humanity, are still ongoing. He pointed to the atrocities in El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur, as a reminder of their actions.
He described what Sudan has been facing since April 15, 2023, as a “major conspiracy” and accused the RSF of aiming to seize power by force, serving the ambitions of reckless regional forces that launched war against unarmed civilians and state institutions, threatening Sudan’s existence and territorial unity.
He stressed that “all the suffering of the Sudanese people is a result of this militia’s rebellion, which has become a threat to local and regional peace and security.” Al-Burhan called on African nations to play a positive role in supporting Sudan to achieve peace and stability and reconsider the decision to suspend Sudan’s membership in the African Union.
He emphasized the importance of Chinese-African cooperation in facing political challenges and international ambitions. Al-Burhan also praised the support from African and friendly nations during this critical period, expressing hope for China’s key role in rehabilitating and reconstructing the war-damaged areas in Sudan.
