The Revolutionary Guard Announces the Death of an Intelligence Official

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard’s media announced the death of Reza Seraj, Deputy Secretary General of the National Security Council and former head of the foreign division of the Revolutionary Guard’s intelligence agency, due to what was described as “health conditions.”

The Tasnim News Agency, affiliated with the Revolutionary Guard, reported that Seraj passed away on Saturday morning after suffering from brain tumors for some time.

The agency noted that he had been receiving treatment in the hospital over the past few weeks.

Seraj held leadership positions within the Revolutionary Guard, including leading the Student Basij.

The United States sanctioned him in early June 2023 as part of a package targeting leaders connected to the Quds Force, the external operations branch of the Revolutionary Guard, accusing them of being involved in plots to assassinate former U.S. officials.
