Sudan Events – Reports
Kuwait’s ambassador to Sudan, Dr. Fahd Al-Dhafiri, along with the embassy staff and the Sudanese Humanitarian Aid Commission, will inaugurate (on Wednesday) at Port Sudan the Kuwaiti Relief Society’s aid ship, in collaboration with the Turkish Humanitarian Relief Foundation. This aid, costing over two million dollars, is aimed at supporting and aiding those affected by floods, torrential rains, and the war in Sudan.
Ambassador Al-Dhafiri stated that this aid is in line with the directives of the Kuwaiti Emir, Sheikh Mishaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, symbolizing the solidarity of the Kuwaiti people with their Sudanese brothers and emphasizing the deep bond between the two nations.
The launch ceremony will be attended by Minister of Information Graham Abdel Qader, Minister of Transport Abu Bakr Abu Al-Qasim, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Hussein Al-Amin, Deputy Minister of Finance Abdullah Ibrahim, Humanitarian Aid Commissioner Dr. Salwa Adam, the Director General of the Sea Ports Authority, Mohammed Hassan Mukhtar, and members of the Sudanese Humanitarian Emergency Committee.
Ambassador Al-Dhafiri explained that the ship, named “Sudan Ship,” costs approximately two million US dollars and carries 2,500 tons of relief, food, shelter, and health supplies, with 2,000 tons provided by the Kuwaiti Relief Society and 500 tons by the Turkish Relief Organization. It includes 150 containers of diverse relief supplies and is the largest aid shipment ever sent by the Kuwaiti Relief Society.
He added that aid also continues via air, with a plane carrying 10 tons of tents and food aid for flood victims being delivered to the Humanitarian Aid Commission. This is the 14th plane in Kuwait’s second air bridge, which began on August 14th and is ongoing.
Ambassador Al-Dhafiri noted that this is the third Kuwaiti aid ship. The first arrived in September from the Kuwaiti Red Crescent in collaboration with the Egyptian Red Crescent, while the second arrived last May, carrying $1 million worth of medicines for cancer patients from the Kuwaiti Red Crescent in partnership with the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center.
The Kuwaiti ambassador affirmed Kuwait’s continued support for the Sudanese people under its wise leadership until Sudan overcomes its current hardships. He expressed his gratitude to all official and public entities in Kuwait for their diligent efforts in supporting the people of Sudan. He also appreciated the cooperation with Sudanese institutions, hoping these efforts will help alleviate the suffering of those affected and that Sudan will recover from its crises.
