Sudan Events – Reports
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has categorically rejected the decision of the Human Rights Council to extend the mandate of the UN fact-finding mission in Sudan for another year.
On Wednesday, the Human Rights Council voted to extend the mission’s mandate for one more year. According to available information, 23 countries voted in favor of the extension, 12 opposed it, and 12 abstained.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, “The decision was wrong in its characterization of the events in Sudan and showed a significant bias against the Sudanese Armed Forces. It also failed to consider Sudan’s real priorities at this stage, which are to end the rebellion first, stop ongoing atrocities, evacuate civilian homes and facilities, including hospitals and places of worship, and facilitate humanitarian aid, as per the Jeddah Declaration.”
The statement added, “The voting results reflect the sharp division within the Human Rights Council on this issue, affirming the fairness of Sudan’s stance.”
The statement emphasized the government’s commitment to promoting human rights in the country and the armed forces’ and other official forces’ adherence to international humanitarian law and human rights law.
