The African Peace and Security Council has called on the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia to urgently lift the siege on the city of El Fasher and ensure unhindered access to aid for the Sudanese population.
A high-level delegation from the African Peace and Security Council recently visited Sudan, meeting with the Chairman of the Sovereign Council and several state officials.
In a statement on Monday, the council urged the warring parties to implement the agreements reached in the Jeddah Declaration. It emphasized the importance of preserving Sudan’s state institutions and called on the African Union Commission’s Chairman to urgently mobilize humanitarian aid to Sudan through relevant African Union institutions.
Regarding the suspension of Sudan’s participation in African Union activities, the African Peace Council stressed the need for further engagement between the African Union and Sudanese authorities and stakeholders.
The statement also urged the African Union Commission Chairman to reopen the African Union office in Port Sudan with a minimum staff presence, considering the current security situation, to facilitate communication between the African Union and stakeholders in Sudan and to provide technical support to Sudan.
It welcomed the Sovereign Council Chairman’s willingness to form a civilian-led transitional government.
The African Peace Council expressed appreciation for the Sudanese authorities, particularly the Chairman of the Sovereign Council, for their hospitality during the delegation’s visit and for facilitating its meetings with various Sudanese stakeholders in Port Sudan.
