Serie A: Napoli edges Empoli to take the lead

Napoli took sole possession of the top spot in the Serie A standings after a narrow 1-0 victory over Empoli on Sunday in the eighth round.
Juventus had temporarily claimed the lead after their 1-0 win over Lazio on Saturday, but Napoli reclaimed the summit a few hours later.
Napoli now has 19 points from eight matches, three points ahead of second-placed Juventus, while Empoli remains stuck on 10 points in 11th place.
Napoli owes this win to their Georgian star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who scored the decisive goal from the penalty spot in the 63rd minute.
Napoli secured their sixth win, alongside one draw and one defeat, as they continue their pursuit of a fourth Serie A title and their first since the 2022-2023 season.
This was Napoli’s third consecutive win in Serie A, and they recently advanced to the third round of the Coppa Italia.
