Sudan Events – Follow-ups
The Vice President of the Sovereign Council, Malik Agar, was briefed on the overall projects, plans, and activities carried out by the International Labour Organization (ILO).
During his meeting on Monday in his office in Port Sudan with the ILO’s country director, Kambola Ndai, in the presence of the Acting Minister of Labor and Administrative Reform, Ahmed Ali Abdulrahman, Agar praised the ideas, opinions, and programs presented, particularly the opening of an ILO office in Sudan. He pledged to remove all obstacles and challenges to facilitate the organization’s work in implementing its programs and activities.
The ILO director clarified that their mission in Sudan is threefold: to assess the situation, provide assistance to people affected by the war, and offer psychological and social support. In addition, they aim to provide vocational training to equip people with skills for when life returns to normal after the war. They also focus on building institutional capacity and training workers to support the organization’s structures, noting the large number of companies that have closed, properties that have been seized, the lack of employment opportunities, and income loss. The organization aims to address these areas with the help of partners and other UN agencies.
