$176.8 Million from African Development Bank to Support Food Security in Sudan

The African Development Bank approved a grant of approximately $100 million from the resources of the African Development Fund, part of the Bank’s group, to finance the second phase of the wheat production project in Sudan aimed at ensuring food security in the country. The Undersecretary of Planning at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, Mohamed Bashar Mohamed, announced in a press statement that the Bank’s approval of this grant comes under the 16th replenishment of the African Development Fund’s resources to support 37 low-income African countries. He stated that Sudan would benefit from the allocated funds, and the approved amount will finance the second phase of the wheat production project to ensure integrated food security, with implementation through the World Food Programme as a third party in 2025. The undersecretary explained that the World Food Programme is already implementing the emergency wheat production project in Sudan, which was signed in 2022 with funding from the African Development Bank through a grant of approximately $76.8 million for two years, lasting until 2024.
