How Can Sudan Build Strong Economic Relationships with Other Countries During Wartime?

By Haitham Mohamed Fathi
In times of crisis, economic relationships are essential because they provide necessary support and resources. War should be viewed not only as a challenge but also as an opportunity to enhance cooperation and forge beneficial partnerships between Sudan and other countries.
The first step in achieving this is continuous engagement with international organizations and friendly nations. Sudan is rich in resources that the world needs, such as agriculture, minerals, and livestock. By reaching out to countries that require these resources, Sudan can position itself as a valuable economic partner by offering solutions that meet mutual needs.
Secondly, activating economic diplomacy is crucial. Sudan should leverage its diplomatic corps to promote investment opportunities and attract investors willing to support Sudan’s economy despite the war. Economic diplomacy is key to building trust with investors and establishing partnerships based on mutual benefit.
Thirdly, strengthening cooperation with neighboring countries is vital. Neighboring countries are natural partners for Sudan, and collaboration with them could be less complicated amidst challenges. Opening land routes and facilitating cross-border trade are simple but significant steps in boosting Sudan’s economy.
Fourthly, Sudan should take advantage of technology and the digital economy. It can build partnerships in areas such as e-commerce and digital services. Today’s interconnected world allows for business management and contract signing remotely via the internet. We can use technology to overcome the barriers imposed by war.
Fifthly, focus should be on stable and sustainable sectors. Some sectors, such as agriculture, livestock, and certain types of light industry, are less affected by war. By concentrating on these sectors, Sudan can establish steady economic relationships even in difficult circumstances.
In conclusion, building strong economic relationships during wartime is not impossible. It requires planning, flexibility, and collaborative efforts. Through cooperation with other countries and leveraging our resources and opportunities, we can make a difference and place Sudan in a better economic position.
