The Russian Ambassador to Sudan, Andrey Georgievich, stated that 80% of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) consist of Arab mercenaries coming from the African Sahel. He remarked that it is difficult to describe the current situation in Sudan as a civil war in the traditional sense.
The ambassador added that citizens are fleeing en masse from areas controlled by the RSF, saying, “This is not surprising, as the fighters regularly carry out retaliatory operations and ethnic cleansing in Darfur, where African communities form the majority, replacing them with loyal Arabs.” He added that since May and June, a new trend has emerged where farmers are forcibly removed from their lands, and crops are destroyed as part of a “starvation strategy” allegedly endorsed by certain UN entities.
According to the ambassador, since March, international officials began sounding the alarm on an agricultural season failure, despite evidence from local reports. When the failure didn’t happen, the RSF reportedly disrupted the winter agricultural season without clear military necessity.
The Russian ambassador also accused the Tagadamun Coordination of being the official political wing of the rebels. He pointed out that it represents a minority faction of former Western-aligned elites, who have since fled the country. He claimed that Tagadamun lacks local support, estimating its pre-crisis electoral strength at less than 4%, which has since diminished. He added, “They rely entirely on support from funds in the U.S., U.K., and the European Union, along with a network of NGOs that the West refers to as the ‘Sudanese civil society.'”
