Rise in Abortion Cases at Shelters

Sudan Events – Follow-up
The Sudanese Family Planning Association reported a rise in abortion cases among displaced women in shelters due to a lack of medical care.
The association stated that hundreds of displaced women in shelters suffer from acute reproductive health service shortages, leading to an increase in abortion cases.
The association reported several maternal deaths due to poor maternal care and inadequate neonatal services, resulting in high maternal and newborn mortality rates.
The Sudanese Family Planning Association emphasized that the widespread displacement from eastern Al-Jazira has placed severe pressure on resources and essential services, putting women and girls in extremely precarious health conditions, especially concerning primary and reproductive healthcare.
It noted increased cases of gender-based violence, including physical and sexual assaults, worsening the psychological and physical well-being of displaced women and girls.
