On Monday, a community leader revealed a plot by the Rapid Support Forces militia to overrun three border localities in North Darfur under the control of the army and its allied forces.
The head of the Zaghawa Tribal Council, Saleh Abdullah, stated in an audio message reported by Sudan Tribune that “according to Plan B announced by the Janjaweed leader, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, they are planning to invade our lands in the localities of Tina, Ambru, and Karnoi from a force coming from Kulbus in West Darfur.”
He mentioned broad mobilization campaigns among fighters in the border areas with Chad in preparation to counter what he described as an invasion by the Janjaweed militia.
He added, “A major support committee has been formed in Karnoi locality to stand as a barrier against the militia’s advance from the south and west of the Zaghawa lands… traditional leaders from Ambru, Mazbid, and Abu Haraz held meetings to open training camps for fighters.”
Abdullah disclosed that the Rapid Support Forces and allied tribal militias have burned down about 120 villages inhabited by the Zaghawa ethnic group as part of a retaliatory campaign in the region over the past three weeks.
