UN experts condemn militia violations in the Al-jazirah

Sudan Events – Follow-ups
UN experts strongly condemned the recent attacks by the Rapid Support Forces militia on the Al-Jazira state, pointing to disturbing reports they received about civilians being subjected to forced displacement, torture, ill-treatment, extrajudicial killings, and arbitrary detention based on their ethnicity. They said, “This adds to a growing pattern of atrocities against ethnic minorities that may amount to crimes against humanity.”

Experts stated that they are still deeply disturbed by the recent systematic use of sexual violence as a weapon of war by the Rapid Support Forces militia in Al-Jazeera State and more broadly during the conflict, especially as it has been revealed that this large-scale campaign, primarily targeting women and girls, includes rape, sexual slavery, forced marriage, and human trafficking under conditions of extreme violence that amount to torture.
