Sudan Events – Follow-ups
Lieutenant General Ibrahim Jaber, member of the Sovereignty Council and assistant to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, announced the exemption of solar power units from customs duties for agricultural purposes. This initiative is part of the government’s efforts to expand agricultural land. During a meeting with local leaders in the Northern State, he confirmed that all necessary resources for a successful winter agricultural season in the region would be provided. Jaber highlighted the region’s comparative advantages in agricultural and industrial investment, and mentioned plans to establish a branch of the Agricultural Research Center there. He also emphasized that the Northern State could fulfill the country’s wheat demand if provided with sufficient resources. Additionally, Jaber praised the Northern State for holding an investment and industry forum in Port Sudan and expressed support for its outcomes. He directed officials to begin procedures for establishing an internationally competitive slaughterhouse and a transformer station in East Nile.
The Governor of the Northern State, Abdeen Awadallah, welcomed Lieutenant General Ibrahim Jaber’s visit, noting that solving the region’s energy issues would enable it to help address Sudan’s food gap given the current circumstances.
