Sudan Events – Reports
The Jazeera Conference, a civil entity, announced on Friday that at least 40 people had died from poisoning within the last 24 hours in the Hilaliya area, east of Jazeera State. This raises the total death toll since the siege by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia on the town to 166, including 15 who were shot.
The RSF imposed a siege on Hilaliya before taking control of the town and committing widespread violations against civilians.
A statement from the Jazeera Conference noted that “40 deaths from poisoning were recorded within the last 24 hours, including entire families, bringing the total fatalities to 166 as of Friday. This includes 15 victims who died from direct gunfire by RSF forces, with the remainder succumbing to poisoning.”
The statement accused the RSF of destroying and looting the city’s dialysis center, which serves 31 nearby villages, in addition to damaging and looting the main hospital.
The RSF reportedly destroyed 10 water wells, looted 18 grain mills and 10 pharmacies, and damaged electrical transformers and power cables.
The statement also claimed that the militia is charging one million Sudanese pounds (around $450) to evacuate each person from Hilaliya, which currently hosts over 30,000 residents suffering from insecurity, food, and medicine shortages.
