The Russian representative at the United Nations stated that the priority in Sudan is to end hostilities, but international efforts to resolve the conflict have not yet achieved their goal, and the Jeddah Agreement has not been implemented.
She added during the Security Council session: “Given the severity of the conflict’s impact, we hear proposals for settlement, some of which seem completely disconnected from reality. We are convinced that an in-depth analysis of the causes of the conflict is needed.”
She emphasized that Sudan’s unity is at risk, which requires support for state institutions, including the army, which has become the backbone of the state. People are fleeing to areas under its control in search of protection.
She maintained that supporting state institutions should be the basis for any Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue on the country’s future, as any initiative that does not have the backing of these institutions will not succeed.
