Sudanese Banks Union Calls for Depositing 1,000- and 500-Pound Notes in Banks

Port Sudan – Sudan Events
The Sudanese Banks Union has called on the public and bank clients to deposit their 1,000-pound notes and other denominations into their bank accounts at branches operating in their respective regions.
The union announced facilitations for opening new bank accounts and enabling access to banking applications to benefit from various electronic payment services.
In a statement signed by its chairman, Abbas Abdullah Abbas, the union emphasized that this is an opportunity for those without bank accounts to open one and benefit from it for various transactions, including securing financing for investments, safeguarding their funds, and saving time and effort in commercial dealings, including e-commerce.
The statement affirmed the readiness of Sudanese banks to safeguard public deposits and ensure seamless account access for new clients in any branch, even amid the current exceptional circumstances. It reiterated their commitment to directives from the Central Bank of Sudan, aiming to help banks play their role in rebuilding what the war has destroyed to achieve national stability.
On November 9, the Central Bank of Sudan issued a statement detailing the introduction of the new 1,000-pound note, explaining the reasons for its issuance, its features, security marks, and the guidelines for public usage. This aims to facilitate a smooth transition to the new currency denomination without complications, protect the national currency, stabilize its exchange rate, and contribute to economic stability.
