King and Queen of Spain Visit Flood-Hit Area
The King and Queen of Spain visited the area devastated by catastrophic floods last month, marking their first visit since angry survivors threw mud at them and senior officials during their initial visit to the region.
King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia visited the town of Xiva, accompanied by a central government minister and the regional president of western Valencia, who was criticized by many citizens for failing to address the flooding properly. Felipe and Letizia shook hands with citizens at the start of their tour, while others took pictures of them.
The floods claimed 227 lives and destroyed thousands of homes and vehicles.
