Sudan Calls on International Community to Designate RSF as a Terrorist Group

Sudan Events – Agencies
Sudan has urged the international community to expedite the designation of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) as a terrorist organization, strongly condemn its atrocities, and pressure it to comply with the provisions of the Jeddah Declaration.
This call was made by Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Ambassador Hassan Hamid, during an event organized by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to mark the 25th anniversary of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The event was addressed by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk, along with other experts and specialists.
Ambassador Hamid highlighted the RSF’s heinous acts against civilians, particularly women and girls, condemning the use of violence and rape as weapons of war by the militia. He cited reports from the Unit for Combatting Violence Against Women, which documented 500 cases of rape, noting that many more cases remain unreported. The violations also included abductions, torture, humiliation, and sexual slavery.
He called on specialized organizations to provide support for survivors by offering essential health, psychological, and legal services. Ambassador Hamid also urged support for the Unit for Combatting Violence Against Women and the International Commission for Investigating Violations of National Law, International Humanitarian Law, and Human Rights, including technical assistance and capacity-building to achieve justice and hold perpetrators accountable.
The envoy detailed RSF crimes in East Al-Jazirah, including mass killings of civilians in villages and rural areas in both eastern and western parts of the state. He also referenced the poisoning of drinking water sources, such as the incident in Al-Hilaliya, which led to the deaths of hundreds due to poisoning—a harrowing example of crimes against humanity and war crimes.
Ambassador Hamid affirmed the resolve of Sudan’s government, army, and people to confront and defeat the terrorist militia and hold its members accountable for their crimes.
