Sudan Events – Updates
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), affiliated with the United Nations, revealed that the number of individuals displaced by the conflict in Sudan has exceeded 14.5 million, including both internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees.
In its report, the IOM stated, “Estimates indicate that the total number of IDPs has reached 11,359,005, while 3,234,903 people have crossed borders into neighboring countries.”
The report highlighted that IDPs are spread across 9,470 locations in 184 localities within Sudan’s 18 states.
It further explained that 8,619,054 people have been displaced since the onset of the current conflict, with an additional 1,080,821 experiencing secondary displacement since April 15, 2023, after initially being displaced prior to the current war.
According to the organization, 33% of IDPs fled from the capital, Khartoum, while 18% were displaced from South Darfur and 14% from North Darfur.
The IOM emphasized that 53% of internally displaced individuals are children under the age of 18.
