Biden Pardons Hunter: ‘He Was Targeted Because He’s My Son’
Outgoing U.S. President Joe Biden announced on Sunday that he has pardoned his son, Hunter Biden, who was awaiting sentencing on charges of tax fraud and illegal firearm possession.
The Democratic president stated, “No reasonable person who reviews the facts of Hunter’s case could reach any conclusion other than this: Hunter was targeted because he is my son, and that’s wrong.” He described the situation as a “miscarriage of justice.”
Biden added, “I promised not to interfere in the decisions of the Justice Department, and I’ve kept that promise, even as I watched my son face selective and unfair prosecution.”
The President accused political opponents in Congress of using Hunter’s legal troubles to attack his administration, saying, “Many of my political rivals incited these charges to oppose my reelection.”
While Biden had previously insisted he would not pardon his son, the recent decision marks a reversal, justified by what he described as a “grossly politicized” judicial process. Hunter had previously pleaded guilty to nine charges, including tax fraud, and was awaiting sentencing.
