French Government Loses Confidence Vote in Parliament
French opposition lawmakers brought down the government on Wednesday, deepening the political crisis in the European Union’s second-largest economy and threatening its ability to legislate and manage a massive budget deficit. Lawmakers from both the far-right and the far-left united to support a motion of no-confidence against Prime Minister Michel Barnier and his government, with 331 votes in favor out of 574.
This makes Barnier’s government the first French government to be forced out through a vote of no-confidence since 1962.
